Seven Departments Layout Future Industries and Six Key Directions Have New Opportunities

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other six departments jointly issued the Implementing Opinions on Promoting the Innovative Development of Future Industries, proposing that by 2025, China’s future industrial technology innovation, industrial cultivation and security governance will be developed comprehensively, some fields will reach international advanced levels, and the industrial scale will be improved steadily. China will build a number of future industry incubators and pilot zones, break through 100 cutting-edge key core technologies, form 100 iconic products, and initially form a future industry development model that is in line with China’s actual situation.

The Opinions clarify the key tasks of comprehensively laying out future industries, accelerating technological innovation and industrialization, creating iconic products, strengthening industrial entities, enriching application scenarios, and optimizing industrial support systems. It proposes six key directions for promoting industrial development, including future manufacturing, future information, future materials, future energy, future space, and future health.

Han Jian, Director of the Future Industry Research Center at CCID Research Institute, stated that the future industry is driven by cutting-edge technologies and is still in the stage of incubation or industrialization. It is a forward-looking emerging industry with significant strategic, leading, disruptive, and uncertain characteristics. At present, the development of future industries has become an important opportunity for the country to catch up with industrial technology and seize high ground in cutting-edge technology fields.

In the key tasks of the Opinions released this time, the innovative landmark products mentioned include: humanoid robots, quantum computers, new displays, brain computer interfaces, 6G network equipment, new large-scale intelligent computing centers, the third generation Internet, high-end cultural and tourism equipment, advanced and efficient aviation equipment and deep resource exploration and development equipment.

"We will promote future industrial technological innovation and industrialization in accordance with the requirements of the Opinions. We will accelerate the construction of future industrial pilot zones, improve policy systems, make technological breakthroughs, advance demonstration applications and other full chain innovation systems." said Li Yuhong, Director of the Technology Progress Department of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
